Slocum Hall - Syracuse University School of Architecture

Syracuse, New York

Owner: Syracuse University

Architect: Garrison Architects

This project involves the complete interior renovation of Syracuse University's School of Architecture building, within 120,000 square feet of the existing 5-story Slocum Hall.  The present building on the south side is attached to Link Hall and when complete there will be two new stairs attaching both buildings at each floor.

The new "floating" auditorium is the centerpiece of the renovation. It is a state-of-the-art design riding on structural steel pylons between two floor levels and encased inside and out with bamboo veneer perforated paneling. The same bamboo paneling will be distributed throughout the interior of the building. The atrium of the building, at one point sealed off between the 2nd and 3rd floors to add more floor space, has been opened to the skylight again and surrounded by a cap-less glass handrail. Classroom renovations include floor leveling, plaster repair/replacement, new custom lighting fixtures and fresh paint. New faculty offices are being constructed inside as well.

This project is scheduled for completion in Autumn 2008.
